Summary: This lovely trail travels through an oak and pine forest that teems with wildflowers in the late spring and early summer (wallflower and wild iris were growing profusely when I visited the trail mid-June). A detailed nature guide, available for a small donation, is available at the trailhead in the summer months, and is useful in describing the significant species that are marked by ten separate signposts along the trail. According to the nature guide, this trail also has historic significance, as it was originally created to be featured in a 1969 episode of the popular television show "Lassie." Trailhead: From the I-10, from the city of Redlands, exit along Highway 38 and travel northeast for approximately 25 miles to the Whispering Pines Nature Trail trailhead, which is signed and located on the right side of the highway. A Forest Service Adventure Pass is required to park at the trailhead. Reviewed by mt on 5/25/2010 yeahh i totally saw you and your two point five year old kid on that hike, its a good trail if you wanna get hella blazed, i hiked it flyin' high on that afghan cush. I took a shit off to the side of that trail too i think... It is a pleasant hike though, tootles. 
Reviewed by Dan on 6/22/2009 Took my kids (ages 2.5 and 4) on this nature trail this weekend. It was a nice little hike. There is a nature trail guide you can pick up at the start that tells you about the trees and rocks and little animals. Kids loved it. There is also another trail directly across the hw38 that is about the same length. These trails together would be a nice place to go for picnic lunch. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous. You are responsible for informing yourself about these hazards and taking necessary precautions.
