Summary: The Hike and Bike Trail is located in a previously unused area of Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest. As the name implies, the trail is open to both foot and bicycle travel. The trail is wide and clearly marked, consisting of mostly gravel, with some paved areas. After an initial climb from the parking area, the trail is mostly flat. The trail follows scenic Long Lick Creek, with several well constructed bridges over the creek. The trail is mostly tree lined with some rocky areas located along the way. The total length of the traiil is 3.7 miles one way, but the last 1/2 of this is mostly along country roads and abandoned paved roads. The entire trail is worthy of the bike, but a good turn-a-round point for a hike is at about the 1.75 mile mark where a gate is across the trail. Trailhead: Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest is located about 25 miles south of Louisville, KY, on Highway 245 in Clermont, KY. Take I-65 to exit 112 and go east for about 2 miles, turning left on Happy Hollow Road. Reviewed by ZAC on 1/18/2009 A great WAlK. Not really much of a hike, per say. Always cleared of any fallen trees and the old iron bridges give it an nostalgic, old-time feel. You walk right by the railroad most of the way after the first bridge, but I've never seen a train go by once. My fave for a relaxing stroll... Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
