Summary: From parking area take blue blazed trail on north side of road. The trail follows the shoreline of the reservoir, then reaches a large dam. Cross the dam and pick up a blue & white blazed trail. This trail leaves the shorline and begins a short,gentle climb to a ridge where it ends at a white blazed trail. Make a right onto the white trail. Follow it to where a woods road splits off to the right and bear right onto it. You may note old blazes from the trail on this section. You'll soon come to another dam and pick up the white trail again. It soon crosses another woods road. Bear right onto this and take it out to the road. From here you can take the road back to your car, or work your way back on a faint trail along the shoreline, using the road only to cross the causeways. Trailhead: Route 23 North to county road 511 (Boonton Ave). South on Boonton Ave. Right onto Fayson Lakes Road.Parking is just after causeway by reservoir. Reviewed by Cheryl on 3/23/2013 Beautiful to hike in the winter with snow. Only took 1.5 hrs and that was with snow. Note, there is no parking lot, just some parking on either side of the road. Parking is after the 2nd causeway if using directions above. 
Reviewed by Deb on 3/26/2012 Absolutely lovely! and just about 2 hours exactly. (I think those that say it is longer may have added a section heading towards the Pyramid Mountain Visitor Center.) Some pretty views. Kind of a wike. Followed instructions given here and they were perfect. The trail is well-marked and well maintained. Go.

Reviewed by Butler28 on 9/21/2008 Great for dogs to run on, difficult for small children. A bit more difficult than "easy" but very manageable. Fayson road is *not* good for kids and dogs though.

Reviewed by MVA on 6/23/2008 This hike was scenic and very pleasant but closer to 5-6 miles than 3.5 miles. Parking is after SECOND CAUSWAY (road over water) on either the left or right. If you park to the right, the blue trail begins right there and soon goes over man-made wood bridge near small dam. Trail stays close to waterline-plenty of places to picnic on rocks. Go over second Govt.-made concrete dam. After this dam you will take the blue and white trail away from shoreline up rocky hill in which you will have to step on rocks or in between them. This was the most challenging part of the hike for us. After this part you will hit white trail where it is mostly smoothe and flat. Once white trail leads you back to waterline-it's another 1 mile to car busy roa Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
