Summary: The Seneca Creek Greenway Trail follows Great Seneca Creek in Montgomery County, MD. It is a wooded, natural surface trail that extends 26 miles from the Potomac River to the Damascus Regional Park trail system. The trail is intersected by several roads, most of which have areas to park. Parking locations are noted on the map. Using these crossroads, you may tailor the distance of the hike. You may choose an out-and-back hike or a point-to-point hike if you have two cars. For detailed instructions and trail notes, please see www.senecatrail.org.

This is the upper section of the trail. It extends from the Watkins Mill Road crossing to the end of the existing Seneca Greenway Trail and onto the Magruder Stream Valley extension trail to the Damascus Regional Park trail.

Trailhead: The trail follows Great Seneca Creek and nearly bisects Upper Montgomery County, Maryland, starting at the Potomac River. There are multiple trailheads where the trail crosses roads. Trailheads for the upper section of the trail are located on Watkins Mill Road, Wightman Road, Watkins Road, and Damascus Regional Park. To reach Watkins Mill road, exit Interstate 270 at the Montgomery Village exit. Turn left onto route 355 North. Turn right at Watkins Mill road. The parking area is on the right just before crossing a bridge. To reach Wightman Road, take the Route 118 East exit from Interstate 270, turn left on Route 355, turn right onto Route 27, and turn right onto Brink Road. After crossing Seneca Creek, bear right at the fork onto Wightman Road. Parking is on the roadside immediately after the fork. To reach Damascus Regional Park, continue north on Route 27 and turn right onto Kings Valley Road. The park entrance is on the left. (Lat:39.19 Lon:-77.22)

This is a great trail for hiking, BUT REMEMBER BIKES AND HORSES ARE NOT ALLOWED WEST OF ROUTE 355. This regulation covers more than half of the trail. Pay attention to park regulations, they are in place for a reason.
