Summary: A lovely pond in a small bowl. You look across the pond at two small peaks. There is a lean-to shelter and about 5 tent sites. The area is heavily used and it was hard to find good wood for a fire but there are nice fire rings available and good tent platforms. Trailhead: Take the Sawyer River Road off of route 302 to the end, passing the trail head for Mt Carrigain, Signal Ridge. Cross the foot bridge to get onto the trail. This is a dirt road which is not open in the winter months. There is a self-service fee tube at the parking lot and $3.00 will be needed per day. I now school was there,kids.learning.. my nefyou cot 1st fish.pitchers,pitchers,I can see.an see.??? IAM young.AN still.f phone,ex. text,be on the grond.?? late spring IV walked across pond..no ranger, worhed for wood .pay for wood?? ,parking/ex. now not the same.I remember looking at hafe ? boat under water ,did see.A lot of whoes been at it .people.I was towed ab ilnand...??? good people walk by. bears.??.. 
Reviewed by Paul on 8/24/2011 The nice hike in was nice. The shelter and the surrounding area was stunning, but i did a bit of fishing and kept catching "chub" correct me if i am wrong. They seemed to be small sucker fish. Well i kept catcing a bunch and realized the ones i was getting were all fat. So i caught one gutted it to find a 12 inch long white worm living in the intestinal tract of this fish. This stood true for 2 more fish i caught and then i could only assume the fattened look was actually a worm. I realized the countless baitfish at Sawyer pond were infected by monstrous tape worms

It took my father and I about 45 minutes to get to the camp sites, then we bushwacked around to the other side of the pond where he had set up a crude site 15 years before. It is a few yards up the small stream that FEEDS IN near the island. When he tried fishing long before, he caught several brook trout at the mouth of the stream, but we didn't catch anything except a small trout that time. 
Reviewed by Andrew on 12/16/2009 This was the worst hike iv ever done when i talked to the ranger he said yes its all pathed and it is very easy. So I took my dog with me turns out you have to wade (You Have To Walk In water Up to your Stomach) I would never Do this Trail Again My dog almost Drowned Horribal Hike Dont Take It NH Needs To Take Better Care Of There Trails 
Reviewed by Jen on 11/17/2008 This was a hike I did many times as a kid. My husband and I recently took our dogs on an overnight outing there. The hike only took us about 45 min one way with plenty of water breaks for the dogs. The camping set-up is great, but get there early in the day during the summer or you risk not getting a tent site. The pond is great for swimming and the view of the mountains across the pond is breathtaking. 
Reviewed by x on 8/11/2008 Crowded and poorly maintained for the amount of USFS rangers that appeared. Fishing was terrible. Saw a few fresh bear scrapes near Little Sawyer.
Reviewed by Matt on 6/25/2008 I hike this trail at least twice a year and I love it. It was one of the first hikes that my dad and I did when I was young. It's a relatively easy hike with a great ending at the beautiful Sawyer Pond. Though the firewood is scarce and it seems to rain everytime I go I would highly recommend this hike to anyone that is looking to get away for a couple of days.
