Falls Creek Falls, 15 miles north of Carson, WA

Highlights:

Great hike for kids, beautiful stream, breathtaking waterfalls at the end!
Near:Carson, WA
Scenery:
Distance:3 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:683 ft
Hike Time:2 hours
Difficulty:Easy
Trail Condition:Well maintained trail
HikeType:Out and Back

Summary: This is a relatively easy hike for the casual hiker and worth every step of the 1.5 miles out for the waterfall at the end. Kids will easily take this hike in stride. The trail is good and well maintained, and there are only few and short moderately steep areas. The waterfall - well, realy a triple waterfall - at the end is worth the walk. This has to be one of the most spectacular falls in the Pacific Northwest. As you near the end of the hike and hear the falls - LOOK UP! You can only see the top stage of the falls from one point on the trail, and it's rather surreal seeing all that water apparently cascading out of the trees. Up close, the second stage is very powerful, and the third is a 100ft spout into a "punchbowl". On a hot day, the temperature at the end of the trail closest to the falls drops 8-10 degrees due to the mist. It's very refreshing, aside from the beauty of it all. Grace (11) and Dave (7) give this hike a double thumbs up!
Trailhead: From the Oregon side of the Columbia, cross over at the Cascade Locks (small toll) and take the highway east toward Carson. Take the Wind River Highway (Hwy 30) North 15 miles to the junction with Forest Service Rd. 3062. Turn right headed east, drive 1.5 miles and turn right onto Forest Service Road 57. The trailhead is 1/4 mile up this road. This area is gated from December to April. (Lat:45.907 Lon:-121.94012)

I hiked this in June and it was very nice. Nicholas (almost 7 yrs. old) liked the falls but not the hike. The hike is nice but we got sort of confused. Don't worry. Both FCF Tr. and FCF Tr. A end at the falls. Huge and majestic falls.

The hike is perhaps not "easy" as at times seemed more like moderate. That said, was definitely not hard and as has been noted by others the falls at the end are worth it. Definitely one of the most spectacular in this area or any other.

Very nice hike for Father's day. Really had the urge to jump in the creek :) but that'll have to wait till summer's really here. Understandably quite a busy trail because of the magnificent waterfall. We were the second car at the TH when we arrived but must have been at least a dozen or more when we returned. I had good bait for bigfoot (my 7 and 8 year-olds) but still no sign. So let's leave the guns at home please.

I hiked to the falls with a few of my friend today and the falls was beautiful. There was so much water that the waterfalls was very full. I have never been here before, but my friends had been here last year, and they said that it was not nearly as full and beautiful last year. Well worth the hike, such a nice hike in the woods. I will do this hike again.

On Sept 09,2009 -My wife and I would have a life changing experience near this area. I would highly recomend bringing a hand gun on this trip and not linger around the area of the forest when the sun goes down. My wife and her dog and I were stalked and nearly attacked in this area by a extremly large Bigfoot. This experience has changed me forever. This comes from a army ex special forces -who in not scared of anyone or anything.

The waterfalls are amazing! This was a great hike. We had a lot of fun. The directions on this site are hard to follow. The turn to Carson is not marked. Neither is the first service road turn off. I would mapquest this trail, but it is definitely worth it when you get there!

My wife and I did this hike last year and loved it. If anything I wish it was just a bit longer. On a hot day it can be nice because you're under a canopy of trees and shaded much of the way. We got sandwiches and a small bottle of wine somewhere before driving up and made a picnic out of it. We found a nice dry mossy log to sit on where we could still wave to the other hikers passing by on the trail and just made a great memory out of it. I guess that's how we do "romantic" in the NW...
