Summary: This is a very flat hike that follows fencelines from when the property was the Merrick Bar-O Ranch. You will be able to see the ranch home built in 1916 as well as several barns. The house is now used by the Park Rangers. When you cross the spring fed West Verde Creek look up and down the creek. It has some very interesting pools and rock ledges. Watch out for livestock as you hike past the barns, you may be sharing the pastures with them. My son and I were chased out of a pasture by a bull. This seems to be a popular route for riding horses as we passed several riders. Throughout the whole hike you will have very nice views of the surronding hills and pastures. It took me about 2 leisurely hours to complete this hike. Trailhead: Park at the Bar-O Camp area next to the park Headquarters. Trailhead is off road right behind the Headquarters, across the street from where you parked. Be sure to get a map from the Park Headquarters.
