Summary: If you ignore the noise from Interstate 70 (which runs smack down the middle of this loop) and turn your back to the concrete double lanes, you will find this loop quite pretty. The historic features are also not to be missed, especially the "100 Hands Cave", the "Blanket Pictograph", and the "Sheep Pen" with it's gigantic magnifying glass that allows you to see a tiny herd running atop a crack in the cave wall. In season you will enjoy wildflowers and autumn colors set against a range whose summits include the famous Big Rock Candy Mountain. You may wade in the creek, but bring your own water. The south side of the loop is infested by range cattle: watch every step. Parts of the northern loop are hard to trace and the cutoff to Skinner Canyon overgrown. You can halve this hike by using the turnabout. (See map.) Due to funding cuts, this park is in desparate need of volunteer trail reconstruction. Contact the museum for more information. Trailhead: Fremont Indian State Park is located on Interstate 70 between Interstate 15 and Richfield, Utah. Use exit 17 on Interstate 70 to enter the park. Camping is available. For reservations call 1-800-322-3770. Bring a hat, water, food, and a pole for this trail. Binoculars can help you spot rock art located up high. The Museum offers a free trail guide to the Centennial Trail and a $3 guide to the park's rock art. The park guide is an excellent value.
