Summary: You start from Takena Landing Pakr and walk along the Willamette River passing by the Golf Club of Oregon, under the railroad tressel, and through a canopy of trees and vines. The trails hugs the river most of the way, making a small loop at the end before you head back. Several places along the way give you a beautiful view of the river. Trail is packed dirt, will be muddy when it rains. The park has security issues at night and the trail suffers in the winter and due to budget cutbacks. Currently rated as a 2 as a result. Trailhead: From I-5 take the Albany exit follow signs to "Highway 20 - Corvallis" and you will be on Lyon Street as you leave Albany. Lyon turns into Highway 20 as you cross the bridge. As you cross the bridge you will go through on light and at the second light take a left into the park on Read Road which is the enterance to Takena Landing Park. Park in the parking lot and the trail head is under the bridge. 8/4/2009 Update - this park has issues, especially at night. Trail can be good, and then not so good for condition and security. I have changed the rating to a 2 as a result. Reviewed by HCG on 4/2/2011 This is a favorite running place when it's not flooded. It rates high because it is SOOOO convenient & it is away from roads. The views mentioned by Reuven ARE are the railroad trestle about half a mile down the trail, not at the trailhead! Lots of friendly, local folks exercise here. The parking area at the trail head often has "unsavory" characters, many of whom I know from working in the area for years - If you ignore them, or are friendly but not nosy, you should be fine. It's become a popular enough exercise location in the last few years that it feels much safer than it used to! I just like being able to get into greenery & away from roads without much of a drive at the end of my work day. It's not a "destination hike"!

Reviewed by SWR on 7/3/2009 I'm responding to Reuven's review of 7/5/2007. I don't think he actually took this hike. The views he mentions as being worth the trip are at the trailhead. The trail itself is a dirt path between two walls of blackberries most of the time. A few enormous cottonwoods are cool, but you see little of the river or anything else but blackberries.

I'm actually a photographer who has, for the last 10 years, been working on a collection of photographs that capture Oregon as Oregonians know it...lots of rain. - - This hike was easy with plenty to aim my lenses at. The views from under the bridge are worth the trip. 
Reviewed by A.T. on 5/23/2006 This hike was nice, and comfortable. Not difficult, but pleasant, however, at when I was leaving police came and arrested some unsavory characters, so it makes me wonder how safe it is for an individual or single female to hike alone.
Reviewed by HLG on 9/21/2004 I have three children ages 4, 3 and 1, this hike was just what we needed, threw the youngest in an all terrain stroller and we were off. This trail is very well maintained and is very easy and fairly flat. Thanks Craig for listing this hike, I've been in Albany for three years and never knew this trail was there.
