Summary: The bridge over Rock Creek was washed out in the floods last fall in 2003. The creek has changed paths and now is a muddy river a bit further on. When we crossed at noon, it was swift, muddy and just below our knees. Coming back at 7:30 pm, it was over our knees and rather scary. Otherwise, this is an awesome hike that pictures cannot do justice. Take water shoes or sandals and hiking poles to be safe over the crossing. Trailhead: From Sedro Woolley, drive east on Hwy 20 to the Baker Lake turn off. Go left and follow this road 12.5 miles to the South Fork Nooksack Road/Forest Service Road 12. Turn left and 3.5 miles to the Sulphur Creek Road/Forest Service Road 13. From here it is about 6 miles to the trailhead. Northwest Forest Pass is required to park at the trailhead. We started at 3 pm and those coming down warned us that Rocky Creek was running high. We chose to cross the creek on a skinny log instead of wading (see photos of creek crossing at http://mom.floft.net/index.php?id=86), and everyone in the group did just fine, though poles proved helpful. The trail is in excellent condition and the views are outstanding once Morovitz Meadow is reached at about 2 miles. great views Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
