Summary: From the trailhead it is easy to find the well labeled trail that will lead you up to the falls. Though this trail is short, it does gain a fair amount of elevation, so take your time. Bring water as well, since this area is very arid and the valley can get pretty hot in the summer. When you near the falls you will likely see signs not to climb around on the rocks or approach the falls to closely as rock fall is a common occurrence here. I say you will likely see a sign because about once a year the sign in crushed or buried in a rock fall, so heed the warning. These falls flow best in the spring, but by late summer or fall in dry years will stop flowing at all. Trailhead: From the town of Nathrop (south of Buena Vista on Highway 285) take county road 162 West into the Chalk Creek valley. You will pass the Mt Princeton Hot springs along the way, a great place to relax. The trailhead parking is just short of 9 miles from the Highway 285 and county road 162 intersection. It is on the right side of the road and labeled with forest service signs. It is directly across the road from Chalk Lake Campground. Reviewed by Yvonne on 6/22/2011 Hiked this several years ago. Beautiful and when I was there the falls were roaring. I think it was that was in mid July. I was 57 at the time ande some what overweight and had no real trouble hiking this but took my time too. 
Reviewed by Scott on 5/23/2010 I have lived in Colorado most of life and passed the trailhead probably a thousand times... this weekend I stopped and walked up to the falls!!!! WOW what a beautifull hike and area.. the water was clear as glass. I highly recommend....very photographic too. 
Reviewed by mbk on 10/22/2008 beautiful falls, our family is from Illinois and none of our relatives had ever been to this part of Colorado. almost to the top of the hike ,we came across a fallen log and my dads name was carved in it. ( he had just recenlty passed away) I don't know what that means but it was weird
