Summary: To get to Monte Cristo is 4.19 miles along a fire road, you can either hike, bike or horseback it. Bare in mind that there is a massive gate blocking the road that some people have a key to, so you might encounter vehicles along the way. The road is not steep, with the exception of 2 short hills on the way in. Trailhead: Take Mountain Loop Highway thru Granite Falls to Barlow Pass. You will pass two very distinct bridges the first one is blue and the second is red. Also you will know that you are at Barlow Pass becuz the paved road ends. There is a parking lot on the left hand side or you can park along the road. You will need a parking pass available at the Mt Baker Snoqualmie National Forest ranger station that you pass as you enter the forest. Trail Reviews Page 1 of 5 Submit your own review Did this hike at the beggining of July, we backpacked in since we stayed in Monte Cristo for a couple of days. This was my first back packing trip and I wouldn't call myself too fit but it was a easy hike I did it with little struggle and it went by very quickly. I did it with 14 other people and really had fun. The town of Monte Cristo was fun to enjoy and camping wasn't my favorite there but it rained our whole duration which was really misserable. We did a hike up to a glacier I believe on the second day there and I broke my tibia but was able to get back to camp with just a little struggle over all it was real easy going down. If it wasn't for all the rain it would of been really enjoyable and I would be willing to do it again withou This was my first real hike and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There is one relatively steep hill (well, for this first-timer anyway) that had me breathing pretty hard, but that was the worst of it. There was also a large log that you had to cross over one stream that was pretty scary for me, but after I did it, I realized how much fun it really was. My feet were killing me at the end, but I would still recommend this hike to a first time hiker and will definitely be doing this again. Good hike, just too many people letting their dogs chase wild life. Took this hike on June 5th and it was so nice! The scenery was gorgeous and the hike was not to long but not to short. We brought our two dogs and they had a blast roaming the forest and chasing after various wildlife! When we got to the Old town it was very small but cool! There are a couple trails leading off from the town but we decided against doing them, thank goodness! We took a ton of pictures and really enjoyed ourselves. The trailhead is the last one on the paved road and easy to miss! We missed it the first time since there's not a sign saying Monte Cristo (unless we missed it!) Will hike this again! Nice hike, great scenery. Starts out great for bikes but the path has been washed out in places making bike access real hard until you get to Weden Cabin. Took my 12 year old dog, (lab-sheltie) she took 3 days to recover, hard hike for her. would like access accross creek going into Monte Cristo so wading isn't necessary and mile markers would be nice. Otherwise, a nice hike. great hike love the senery play with the train turntable. Sooo fun. Push it in circles an d ride on top of it. easier than it looks. wide trails, just we have seen bears on the trails, so be carefull. Great place! My son and I hiked this the day after Thanksgiving. Would have liked to see mile markers. Nice hike although in the Winter time as you get into Monte Cristo itself, you are going to need snow shoes. Would like to do it again and sometime in the summer. Be aware it starts to get dark around 2:00pm so plan on heading back no later than 2:00pm and you should make it back to the parking lot by 3:50pm. Gets totally dark by 4:30pm. Please dress for the cold and snow. On our way back around 2 miles into it heading back to the parking lot, we ran into people that were poorly dressed walking in the snow.
