Summary: Take the trail at the lower end of the parking area. This descends down a paved path for most of it's length but has some very rough spots near the river. Cross bridge, turn right along the trail until you come to the first trail intersection to the right, descend a long flight of steps to viewing platform for first waterfall. Return by same route, do not re-cross river but continue straight ahead, the upper falls is about 1 MI. ahead. On the return from the upper falls about 3/4 MI. turn right off the trail to cross the river on a wooden bridge. Continue on this trail to the exit at the upper end of the parking area. There also are some very rough spots near the upper falls large rocks to negotiate. The trail splits just before the upper falls keep right, there should be a marker here indicating the correct path. Take a look at the trail map at the parking area to familiarize yourself before leaving. Trailhead: From Haywood Rd. in W. Asheville take NC-191 for seven MI. to entrance of Blue Ridge Parkway on right. Travel up ramp at intersection continue straight up grade (do not cross the river bridge) follow Park way aprox. 32/33 miles to MP 418 and large parking area for Graveyard Fields Overlook. This is where trail starts. From Brevard at intersection of NC -280/276/64 take NC-276 N. it is 10/12 MI. to the parkway. Exit NC- 276 at the parkway and turn left, it is aprox. 6 MI. to MP 418 and the parking area from here. TRAILS WASHED VERY BADDLY IN NEED OF REPAIR AND WATER BREAKS IMPROVED Asheville native and always been my favorite trail absolutely beautiful, my children loved the waterfalls, a fun place to relax for awhile It should be noted that the parking lot is not located at mile marker 410, but closer to 418. This is pretty helpful. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous. You are responsible for informing yourself about these hazards and taking necessary precautions.
