Summary: This is a great hike for those who want to get off the beaten path. Bring your camera, map and a sense of adventure. This hike will follow Abrams Creek as it dissects Cades Cove since there is no trail use the creek, map (and waypoints if you have a GPS) for reference. Take your time and with a watchful eye you may see as we did this day deer, several flocks and scads of gobblers and hen wild turkeys, a couple mallards, coots, bluebirds, a northern Harrier. If you are a real adventure seeker you may want to explore a cave near 2.5 miles into the hike. There is a sign noting it's location and that you do have to get prior approval from the Ranger's Station. At mile 5 you will encounter a flat grassy area just before you get to the loop road, this a great place for lunch before you cross over the road to head back.You may choose to stay near the creek or meander through the pastures near the woods for more wildlife viewing Enjoy this hike for a different view of the Cove! Trailhead: Preferred route: I-40 (Knoxville) to 140 East to 129 South follow signs to 411N/321N then continue on 321N to 73 East and you will enter the GSMNP. 7 miles to the Cades Cove Loop. I-40 East (Sevierville) exit #407 Hwy 66 to 441 South through Gatlinburg into the GSMNP entrance then West (Sugarlands Visitor Center) on Little River Road then follow signs to Cades Cove. Park at the entrance to the loop road and pick up Abrams Creek just below horse stables.
