Summary: This is a nice little interesting trail which winds you up and around the canyons and arroyos, past the turn to Juniper Canyon (known mostly to climbers -- very dense brush & boulders for hikers), up along the base of Rainbow Mountain as it turns and drops down into Pine Creek. You'll come out at the sign which is at Pine Creek, just W of the Wilson Homestead & meadow area. The Arnight trail is very well maintained and please resist the temptation to use existing or to cut new paths across the desert. There are plenty of trails already and the trampling off-trail causes so much damage to the fragile desert environment. It can be a little confusing the first time on this trail, many climbers have used rock cairns to mark their turn into Juniper Canyon, but try to ignore these and stay on the main trail with it's nice signed arrows. There is almost always water running in Pine Creek, but other than that, there is no other water or shade along this trail.
Trailhead: Be advised that the USGS topo does NOT accurately reflect the location of the scenic loop road within Red Rock National Conservation Area, at 18 miles W of Las Vegas Blvd. on Charleston Ave (SR 159) to Red Rock entry (fee) station. Take the scenic loop past Pine Creek parking to Oak Creek parking lot. Not as busy as Willow Springs or Pine Creek parking, most vehicles here belong to climbers. There is a vault toilet, we call it the wind bidet. This is the trailhead for Knoll, and connects to the Arnight Trail; as well as Oak Creek canyon hikes. Follow the sign (there are 2 here) heading NW towards Juniper Canyon (between Pine & Oak creek canyons). There are nice signed arrows along this trail and it is easy to follow. Retrace your steps back from Pine Creek, or take the knoll trail for a longer loop hike back to your parking/TH. (Lat:36.11002 Lon:-115.46825)
