Summary: Follow the trail as it heads east along Portland Creek. There will be several side paths along the way that will take you to views of the small but impressive canyon carved by Portland Creek. The trail ends just after it crosses Portland Creek and reaches a road. Trailhead: From the town of Ouray head South out of town on Highway 550. After the second switchback turn left onto the Amphitheater Campground road. Just after a bridge on the right side you will see the sign and small parking area for the trailhead. I was amazed by the geological formations, and awed by the beauty of the river. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
