Baldface Loop

Highlights:

Cliffs, brook with small falls, great mountain vistas
Near:Center Conway, NH
Scenery:
Distance:9.8 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:3600 ft
Hike Time:7.5 hours
Difficulty:Strenuous
Trail Condition:Poorly maintained trail
HikeType:Loop

Summary: Great views ... the trail is rugged and this is a long hike. Plan on spending a good deal of time exposed to the elements. The rocks on South Baldface can be slippery when wet so be prepared for some full body hiking.

The Slippery brook trail can be used to loop around the steep cliffs.

Please note that when I say poorly maintiained trail I mean a RUGGED trail. It is well maintained given what they have to work with - lots of rock and ledge.

Over 2 miles of ridge hiking with great views. Shelter below the knob is a nice lean-to with an outhouse.

Trailhead: NH Route 113 about 2.5 miles N of Maine state line at Route 113-B and about 1.8 miles S of Maine state line near Basin Pond, elevation about 510 feet.

Wow. This was an AMAZING hike. My friends and I (ages 13-14) went on this hike with a camp trip and it was spectacular. Very difficult, but worth it. The veiw from the top was amazing. I can't wait to do it again.

Did this hike this year in mid-April to avoid bug season. Few snow patches left, but beautiful dry WINDY day. Wind must have been 50-60 mph on the exposed ridges. Came back down Eastman Trail (a lot of blow downs and narrow with vegetation growth in places) and then down Slippery Brook (some blow downs as well) to avoid high winds of Baldface Circle. Well worth the effort.

Took the wrong trail last weekend during the rain, the trial sign to the shelter was turned a little, we missed the sign and hiked 3 miles up the wrong way, dark came fast, and we had to get off the mt in the dark.
