Summary: This is a great workout hike during the week. This trail takes about 50 min to 1 hour depending on your level of fitness. I like this trek because the entire family can enjoy the sceenery there is something for everyone. Lots of herons, mudhens, lizzards, rabbitts, lagoon, and flora views. The trail is not not too crowded, depending on time of day and weather. One drawback is bikes, and people stoping on the trail to enjoy the area, so pay attention. Trailhead: Public parking lot at trailhead on east and west starting points. It is a nice walk...or hike if you wish. Usually a lot of locals walking their dogs. Saw some nice birds. Sometimes can be muddy trails. This is not really a hike, more of a walk along the backside of a golf course where there happens to be a lagoon, behind the houses of the nouveau riche. The lagoon is distant, and not as close as the humming of the 5 freeway. All in all, it could be a very nice outing for small children even in strollers, a great place to run, or just a way to get outdoors if you live in the area. It was a nice hike, and it took my husband and I a little less than 2 hours, because we have a young puppy who frequently needed to take breaks. You can see I-5 almost the entire hike, and hear it most of the time as well, but it's easy to forget how close you are to the highway. It also has a housing development in close view right next to the trail as well, so if you want to completely get away from the city, this may not be the right trail for you. But, we liked it, and would probably hike it again sometime. It was very easy, but I reccomend going in the early morning, since during the day it gets very hot! My family and I have hiked this lagoon for years and several times a month. It offers something for everyone. The beauty of the area relaxes you right away. And the trails can be hiked or you can run for extreme cardio exercise. All benefit from tots to teens to us old folks. Enjoy! Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
