Summary: Torrey Pines State Reserve is a wilderness island in an urban sea. This fragile environment is the home of our nation's rarest pine tree - Pinus torreyana. Before the encroachment of civilization this tree covered a larger area. It now grows only here and on Santa Rosa Island off the coast near Santa Barbara. No food / picnicking are allowed in the park except on the Beach near the entrance. Dogs and horses are prohibited. Trailhead: Follow I-5 to Genesee Ave and go West. Drive just under a mile uphill and turn right onto Torrey Pines Road. The park entrance is 3 miles ahead on the left. Reviewed by Courtney on 3/23/2008 Not much of a hike, but the view is beautiful. The directions given are misleading, by the way. You don't turn onto Torrey Pines Road (it's actually N. Torrey Pines Road). Genesee actually becomes N. Torrey Pines Road.

Reviewed by Jason on 9/29/2007 This is a well maintained trail, but I would not classify it as moderate- it's an easy walk and not much elevation change. The views are great, once you get to the beach it's a great view and not many people around. I would take my parents here for the ease and time (it took 2 hours on the longest loop) but still a fun walk. 
Reviewed by Hoi Lok on 7/22/2007 Great for little kids who want to go to the beach afterwards. It's pretty much flat except for some short flights of stairs... not challenging at all. It's great for tourists because the trails are simple so the whole family can go, but I prefer more of a challenge.
Reviewed by chas on 10/28/2006 this is a great summer time hike/walk there isn't much in an elevation change, the wind off the ocean keeps it nice and the views up and down the coast are great, nice stand of pines at south end are good for a meditative reflection rest stop cya next summer
Reviewed by CSG on 8/29/2005 All of the Torrey Pines trails are more of a walking path than a hike but they are still fun and if you keep up the pace a good workout. I was dissappointed that the Beach trail was closed. Evidently due to some unstable ground. The rest of the trails however were open and we spent a few hours meandering around and stopping occasionally to take in the view from the viewpoints overlooking the ocean. The most challenging trail was probably Parry's Loop as it begins and ends with a significant decline/incline. I would definately recommend it as a fun way to spend 3-4 hours.
Reviewed by Jim on 7/19/2005 The hike is O.K., but the beach at the bottom is beautiful and not cluttered with a lot of tourists. Definitely check this on out and bring a camera!
