Summary: Beehive Creek Trail is a nice little trail with interesting sites marked by nature education signs. It is a great trail for learning more about the area and really taking note of one's surroundings. The trail follows Beehive Creek, crossing it at a few points, and has several benches for relaxation along the way. In early summer, wildflowers of various colors and shapes blanket the ground--truly adding to the beauty of this trail. Trailhead: Follow 64 (Spur Road) into Big Sky, Montana. Continue West past Big Sky Resort (Mountain Village). Just before you arrive at the Moonlight Basin entrance, turn right onto Crow King Road. After a little over a mile you will reach the Beehive Basin trailhead and parking on your left. Access to Beehive Creek Trail is accross the road. This posting is of the Beehive CREEK Trail, not Beehive BASIN Trail, which I believe is the trek Sheri and her family journeyed. Although the trails share a trailhead location, they travel in opposite directions and are very different in scope. The Beehive Creek Trail is a personal favorite of mine. I would recommend it to anyone. It is as the summary states above – a beautiful opportunity to enjoy what Big Sky has to offer! There are not benches along the way as the other person would like you to believe...there are logs. This is also the most advanced hike in the area. Families need to be well aware of this to be prepared before taking out young children. Bring your water and a first aid kit! This trail is not just an in and out...it does loop around, but this is not used as much. It does continue on up to a very small "lake" at the top of Spanish Peaks if your health and physical capabilities are up to it...it is worth the trek, but is well beyond the 300 feet rise that was talked about and is MOST difficult at the end. This will take you a couple hours to the top and back...make sure to bring at least a liter of water per person! Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous. You are responsible for informing yourself about these hazards and taking necessary precautions. Information on this web site comes from volunteer reporters and may contain errors or omissions. A current guidebook and proper equipment are essential for safe enjoyment of the hikes posted on this site.
