Summary: I can't say enough good things about this hike. It is short, but steep. You gain great vistas of the major Southern California Mountains and their respective ranges. You are hiking through nearly waterless desert so there isn't poison oak :-).

Even in August, the temperatures cool down enough to hike it just before sunset, or in the cool of the morning, and that is exactly what I do.

I take this hike 3-4 nights a week with my dogs. It is a jaunt pretty much straight up the hillside, and the incredible views of the San Gabriels and Bernardinos begin almost immediately.

From the top you get clear shots of Jacinto, Gorgonio, and Baldy. Watching the sunset from this spot is exhilarating. Plus, I've never seen another soul out in the evening.

Trailhead: Take the 60 to Moreno Beach Blvd. Exit heading South, follow the curve of the road past the turnoff to Perris Lake. Turn left on Grande Vista, follow it to the end and park. Walk past the water tanks and begin up the hill on a motorcycle track/path.

There is a lot of new construction, so the trailhead may change very soon, but there are many ways to get up into the hills. And you don't have to pay the Perris Lake fees. (Lat:33.88128 Lon:-117.19045)

We did the bushwacking thing also, Found the trail from the top and came down that way. As far as wildlife, we saw lots of quail (35 or 40)in 6 coveys and several roadrunners, hawks. No snakes. I think this is best done early morning or late evening, very open and hot.

Fun hike, especially considering I think my pup and me did some trail blazin. From Grande Vista we went around the water towers and toward the east, went through a cut fence, up a small hill, back through the fence and up and up and up on some deer trails I think. If you want to make it to the top, from Grande Vista stay straight past the water towers and soccer field toward the homes, you'll find the trail on the left side. Up, up and up some more. Pretty view on the right day I'm sure. You might be able to make it over to Perris lake. Dunno. I'd hike this one again.

I have done this hike two times and it is really nice. Not to much wildlife that I have seen, but I did see a deer. You get a great 360degree view at the top thats pretty cool on a clear day.

IT is very nice to hike. Some parts are pretty steep. The views from the top are great! The first time I went up I saw a deer with my friends.

Hiked up last weekend. Nice short hike, but I couldn't find any sign of a trail so I just hiked up the side. Great views of lake perris and surrounding peaks. The trailhead is still there too, but there is alot of construction on that road (Grande Vista).
