Summary: Depending on your route, you may hike 3.5 to 5 miles (if you visit the Agassiz Tree) on this trail. The first 1.5 miles of trail is a moderate, steady climb from the parking lot to the start of the loop trail, with a gain of 260 feet in elevation. The trail is well maintained. During the month of June, there are many varieties of wildflowers to view. There are detailed maps and trail guides available for a small fee at the start of the trailhead. You can stop and have a nice picnic by the mountain stream. Trailhead: Road access to the South Grove trail is not accessible in the winter. To get to the South Grove, drive approximately 8.3 miles down the parkway from the Big Trees entrance gate. There are signs to direct you to the parking and trail head.
