Summary: A beautiful, easy hike through the forests and large meadows of Yellowstone Natl Park. I planned this hike to include Dunanda and Silver Scarf falls but the area was too large for the program, so the spur trail is listed as a separate hike. This hike was Yellowstone beautiful with deer, elk and sand hill crane sightings. However, the creeks have to be forded, so be prepared with wading shoes and extra socks. Boundary Creek was nearly waist deep. As this trail crosses many large meadows, mosquitoes are also a nuisance. Trailhead: Bechler meadows is in the south east corner of Yellowstone. From Ashton, Idaho, take the scenic byway hwy 47 east from the center of town. About 12 miles watch for a paved road on the right signed for Cave falls. Follow this paved/gravel/paved road for about 18 more miles. Upon reaching the second paving watch for turnoff to the left for the Bechler station. Trail maps and campsite locations are available at Bechler station. Usual NP fees will apply. Campsites are by reservation on a first come basis, unless arrangements are made through the back country office. Cave Falls campground is outside the park and is just a couple of miles past the station turnoff.
