Summary: The trailhead for this hike is across the street from the parking area. The Raven Cliffs Fall Trail initially descends than begins and ascent of about 1 mile. There are a few nice vista's along the way. At the intersection of Gum Gap continue on the Raven Cliff Trail to a viewing platform of the 420 ft Raven Cliff Falls. Backtrack 1/2 mile and take the Gum Gap Trail until it intersects with the Naturaland Trust Trail. Shortly down the trail is a suspension bridge that crosses the top of Raven Cliff Falls. Descend sharply down the mountain side and begin following Matthew’s Creek to the southeast. After passing campsite D-5 on the right, cross the creek on a cable bridge and proceed down the west side of Matthew’s Creek . This is the Asbury Hills Methodist Retreat property and hikers must get prior approval at the Retreat Center. There are nice campsites along the creek. Exit the forest at the retreat and hike along side Hwy 276 to the parking area at the fire station. Trailhead: From Spartanburg: Take I26 west to Hwy 11 west, then North on 276, go approx. 5 miles. Reviewed by Bill on 10/27/2003 This was a very tough trail. The straight downhill was hard on the calves and thighs. The scenery was still worth the effort. The weekend I went was rather busy with more hikers than I am use to. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
