Hike Time:1 hours

Summary: The Cedar Creek Gorge Trail starts at the bottom of the parking lot near the boat launch. A broad trail follows the stream up the gorge and across two suspension bridges. After the second bridge, the trail splits, the main path switching back up the hill and the other continuing to follow the creek. There are plenty of places along the way for kids (or yourself) to play in the creek looking for crayfish.

The main trail climbs the hill and then stays up above the gorge. When it's wet the slope can be very slippery. If you take the "high road" you will find find opportunities to get out on the field at the top of the hill and find the source of the buzzing in the sky you've probably been hearing; the MonValley Radio Control Airfield.

Otherwise, the trail comes back down and exits onto the Youghiogheny RiverTrail.

Trailhead: Follow I-70 to Route 51 at Belle Vernon. Take the Route 51 North exit (marked Pittsburgh) and follow for 1/4 mile, then turn right into Cedar Creek Park. Follow the signs to the park. (lat: N40 10.688 lon: W79 46.667) (Lat:40.1789 Lon:-79.77895)

We took our three young boys. The scenery was a big hit with mom and dad, and the kids loved playing in the creek. The kids also loved watching the radio controlled airplanes.
