Summary: What an educational and relaxing hike. This hike starts across the road from the parking area. The trail is very well marked and there are numerous placards along the way. These placards give information on history of the area as well as nature education of the flora and fauna of the area. There are also quizzes along the way to keep you thinking. Trees have markers displaying the name and species of the tree. The Confederate Memorial Park is the site of Alabama's only Confederate veterans home. The facility was in operation from 1902-1939 for the care of elderly veterans, wives of veterans and even the widows of veterans. The park has two original cemeteries where more than three hundred residents of the veterans home are buried. A rustic Museum building houses artifacts from the "Old Soldiers Home", as well as an extensive collection of uniforms, weapons, equipment and other items associated with the Civil War.
Trailhead: From I-65 South exit #205 (Clanton). Turn Left off of the exit on US 31 South. Go approximately 14 miles and bear left on State Hwy 143. Take next left an follow road straight into the park. Parking is marked and on the right. (Lat:32.43156 Lon:-86.28426)

Enjoyable hiking. Good for entire family. Very nice in Spring and Fall - hot/humid in summer. Use repellant in summer. Watch out for poison ivy off the trails. Some nice geocaches in the area as well.
