A very nice hike that your legs may notice the next day. The hike is fairly straight forward with very little in the way of surprises, but once you reach the top of the "hogback" the views are well worth it. It was a bit muddy in spots, but 80% of the trail was dry...it is still February. I would recommend this hike to anyone who is looking for a good workout or for those of you who enjoy horseback riding. Try to go on a clear day, the views can suffer do to smog or clouds.

The Coyote Ridge trail offers a close hike for those in Fort Collins or Loveland, Colorado. The trail is wide for the first mile as it is an old road. The terrain is fairly flat during this section, and one can admire the shortgrass of the Great Plains and enjoy great views of the hogbacks. The trail begins to climb as one reaches a small cabin located within the Natural Area - it is not inhabited, but rather used for presentations. For the next mile the trail begins to wind its way around the hogbacks and finally up to the summit of the ridge. The summit of Coyote Ridge is what really makes this hike exceptional. From the ridge, one can examine the plains to the east and the terrain around Fort Collins and Loveland. The panorama
