Summary: The Davis Gulch Trail follows (somewhat) the south-west shore line of Whiskeytown Lake to the Brandy Creek picnic area. It is a lot of up and down hiking, but nothing at all that is very steep. Disappointingly, there are not many views of Whiskeytown Lake along the trail (especially for the first half of the hike). For this reason, I would not recommend this hike unless you are just looking for some good exercise. This is a popular trail in the summer and on weekends (for jogging and hiking). Trailhead: From Hwy 299 (about 8 miles west of Redding), turn left onto JFK Memorial Drive (at the visitor center). Drive 2.6 miles to the signed Davis Gulch trailhead on the right. There is a $5 daily use fee. (Lat:40.60271 Lon:-122.55048) Trail Guides for Davis Gulch Trail - Whiskeytown Natl. Rec.
