Summary: East Mountain is the high point of Emery County in Utah. This makes it a popular destination for High Pointers and Peak-Bagers. The book. High in Utah suggests basically the route we took start at the base and go straight East. When we got the top we found sheep herders on horse back and a good looking trail heading north I wish we had known this trail was there. I would have preferred this route We basically bushwhacked our way to the top 1600 feet in one mile. The view from the top was great You can see much of the Manti National forest. And some of the lakes and reservoirs in the area. I am glad I got this peak of my list because it was a tough one but I also wish I had taken the trail
Trailhead: From I-15 Take the Spanish Fork Exit and go East on SR-214 It will Intersect with SR-6. Drive down Spanish fork canyon to highway 89 take a left on Highway 31 in Fairview. Drive for 18 or so miles and take a Right (South) down the dirt road towards Joes reservoir. The Dirt road is about 17 miles after you have gone about 13 miles take a left go (East) 7/10 of a mile then go right (North) Drive about 4 miles. You will cross a Cattle Guard. If you continue north you will find a 4X4 road that may take you to the summit I have never been this way We just set our GPS’s to the peak and bushwhacked our way to the top.
