Summary: This a great little slice of the FHT that is capable for most all ages. I took a four year old and a thirteen year old with no problem. The hike gives you the feel of deep woods due to the incredible terrain. The trail has only one real tricky area for small kids but other than that it is a great stroll through beautifully ravined country. There is a great boulderfiled with a natural shelter if it rains. We climbed up to the big boulder shelter and had lunch. It's not a particularly challenging hike just a peaceful hike through some beautiful country. Enjoy and I'll see you on the trail!!! Trailhead: From Greenville head north on Hwy 276. Take a left on Hwy 288 and drive to the end at Hwy 178. Turn right and cross over Hwy 11 and proceed to Rocky Bottom. Turn right on F. Van Clayton Hwy (small road). proceed to the trailhead on the left about two miles up the road. If you continue you will drive up to the summit of Sassafras Mtn in about another three miles and have to turn around to get down.
