Summary: This hike is full of elevation gain. You start from the parking lot and hike to the top of Cardwell Hill in old growth on a nice gravelled road. You then be rewarded with a nice downhill walk to the Fitton Green dedication rock. At the rock the gavel ends and you will then follow a dirt road (muddy in the winter) up a second hill to the top of the Fitton Green lookout. After resting and taking in the view (there should be a Porta-Potty near by) you get to do it all again in reverse. Trailhead: Fitton Green Natural Area is the newest park in Benton County Oregon. To start this hike, find Harrison Blvd in Corvallis Oregon and follow it west until it becomes Oak Creek Road. Oak Creek Road ends at the gated entrance to the Caldwell Hill/Fitton Green trail. You will find ample parking and a map of the area you will be exploring. Hike the Cardwell Hill road to the "dedication rock" (about one mile from the parking area). The plaque indicates the person who donated this land for public access and the number of acres. The trail from the parking the "rock" is gravelled and it very good condition. At the rock, turn left off the main trail and head on the dirt road south west up the hill. Follow the trail to the top of the hill for a great viiew of the valley and Mary's Peak on a good day. Reviewed by SN on 7/10/2008 i've been there every day this week. this hike is awesome. i'm trying not to turn too many people onto it though. it's usually pretty quiet. 
Reviewed by JZ on 3/11/2008 3/11/08.Having first hiked Beazel, I came in from the Cardwell Hill Rd side. It seemed a long hike in, without any helpful signage( how far, where to turn); but the main thing is; don't cross the river(Mary's River?) after the railroad bridge ,instead bear left and uphill and then down to the "rock". Despite lots of mud, this hike had lovely views of valleys and Mary's Peak at the top, a grouse call, frog song and even a few Strawberry flowers out already.Should be great flowers later.

Reviewed by HikerRuss on 11/20/2006 I've spent the last few weeks hiking in the McDonald-Dunn Forest, Peavy Arboretum and Bald Hill however, in the Corvallis area this is the premier local hike. I took this hike 11/20/06, just after some rain and although it made parts of trail muddy, it was absolutely beautiful!
Reviewed by Bengal on 6/5/2005 I love the Fitton Green nearly as much as Bald Hill. If I'm riding my horse, I make a huge ride of both Bald Hill and the Fitton Green- lots of fun!
Reviewed by Carol Ann on 9/4/2004 Excellent hike for exercise, up and down 2 hills. Go slow and enjoy the variety of the area and the views. Futher up the trail you come to an area of access to the Mary's River, rest here and look up and down the river, very beautiful and calming. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
