Summary: The trail is well groomed and well marked. It parallels some house as you begin to go up the first hill. About 15 minutes and a few switchbacks later you are on the ridgeline. The to West and Southwest is Fountain Hills and the beautiful Fountain Park. To the Northeast lies the great Four Peaks mountain. The views are spectacular. The trail leaves the residential area for a while. It follows the ridgeline and then descends through a series of switchbacks. You will climb another hill and this happens a couple more times along the trail. The trail is almost like a horseshoe in shape in that it ends at another road by a gate into the subdivision you just hiked by. Follow the road down hill towards the Fountain Park for about 1/2 a mile. It intersects with Palisades Boulevard and not too far from the parking lot where you left your car. Great for family hikes and don't forget to stop by and get some coffee (iced) at the Mountain View Coffee Co. Trailhead: If you're on Shea Boulevard turn and go north on Saguaro Boulevard. At the intersection of Saguaro and El Lago there's the Fountainside Plaza with shops, restaurants, and a cool coffee shop (Mountain View Coffee Co.). Turn right at El Lago and the road parallels the park and then you come to an intersection. Take a left and take the first immediate left into a parking lot at the Fountain Park. The trailhead is actually across the street from the parking lot off of the sidewalk. It shouldn't be too hard to find since it is well marked as it's lined with rocks. There was campsites on the way to the top and you could drive to the base of the peaks, within a 1000 feet. I was single then and now have 3 boys. The youngest is in high school and would love to bring them back to stay for a week. We reside in Michigan. I just wonder is the road to the base still available?
