Summary: This is a short hike, nice to do with the kids in the evening. There is a large rock formation with a slight indentation (cave but not really). In 1778 an Indian War party kidnapped a young girl and held her captive overnight in this cave, she managed to escape but was recaptured. She then went on the live the rest of her life as an indian, was married and had many kids. My kids always love playing around on the rocks.
Trailhead: From exit 170B of Interstate 81, take Route 309 North approximately 7 miles (7.2). Turn right (east) on Carverton Road and go approximately 4 miles (4.2). Turn left (north) on 8th Street Road and go approximately one mile (1.3). Turn left (west) onto Mt. Olivet Road and go one mile. The park entrance is on the left. When you enter the park go straight until you come to a T, turn right then left to a parking area. You will see a sign for the trail. (Lat:41.33643 Lon:-75.89223)

This park and trail were OK and the area where Frances Slocum was hidden was quite interesting. Would I go there again? Probably not...

frances slocum is a well kept secret...my most favorite hike is the comination of the lakeside trail& campground trail...it has woodland interest...gentle inclines...the lake...it is also a great place to xc ski in the winter-snow permitting...I am proud to say that I attended the grand opening of this park way back in the 60's,my family were great hikers and have also enjoyed many a fall picnic here

The Walk was very icy. My mom fell twice. I fell once. I would not recomend people to go there during the winter.

I've hiked Francis Slocum St. Park throughout my childhood and have always held this place in high regard. My mom is now a senior and on her own but also enjoys the outdoors. Would you know of any groups that hike in N.E. PA that she may join?
