Summary: Start from the parking lot on the paved sidewalk. As you walk on the sidewalk stop and get a map from the information stand. Continue down the sidewalk staying right at any splits until you reach the main loop trail. You'll know you are at the main trail because the sidewalk ends and the trail becomes wood chips. At this intersection you can go to the right for a shorter steep climb to the top of the hill or go left for a longer more gradual climb to the top. Remember though that if you opt for the gradual ascent you will have to go down the steep side which has some difficult footing in places. This loop has some nice views and if your quite you may see some wildlife. I have seen deer, lizards and a mulitiude of birds on this trail. This park is known for birding and in the right season you may even be able to see the endangered Golden Cheeked Warbler or Black-Capped Vireo. The trails are very rocky and require sure footing. Trailhead: All trails begin from paved sidewalk located in the small parking lot. The majority of the main loop is improved trail. I enjoy jogging this portion of the trail. Friedrich Park is definitely one of my favorite spots. Great workout when going on the Vista trail. Shaded. No dogs. No bikes. Nice place to go jogging too. Just be careful in rocky spots. A very nice afternoon hike. Not too challenging and not too easy. Great for all levels of hikers and not far from the city at all. Nice short hike but you get lot's of freeway noise from I-10. Trails were well managed but can get muddy during rainy periods. lots of shade, fairly easy, took 2 children with me and they managed well. However, they had no maps other than wooden ones on the trail. It was one of the nicer trial I have hiked so far in SA. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
