Gila NF - Catwalk Main Trail

Summary: Standing between the entrance pillars with your back to the parking lot, the trailhead is ahead to the far left. There are historic signs and restrooms at the trailhead. There are also signs and distance markers along the trail, but no restrooms. Follow the paved main trail. At 0.18 miles There is a T-intersection and a bridge on the right. Follow the main trail straight ahead. At 0.36 miles you come to another T-intersection and the first catwalk platform. Continue straight ahead on the main trail. The trail will alternatel between dirt/rock and steel catwalk. At about 0.75 miles you will find a stairway descending to the right. At the bottom is a large pool fed by a water fall. This is the swimming area. Continue ahead on the main trail. Just beyond the 1.0 mile marker you will approach a suspension bridge. Although several trails combine here, the Catwalk trail continues across the bridge. The trail ends about 500 feet beyond the bridge. Return via reverse
Trailhead: From the Glenwood NM Post Office, drive north on State Route (SR) 12 about 1/2 mile to the junction of SR-12 and NM-174. Turn right on NM-174, drive 5 miles to the end of the highway. Park in the parking lot, pay the day-use fee at the pay station and place the reciept in your windshield. (Lat:33.37254 Lon:-108.84226)
