The hike starts off at the base of an incline. You pass over a small brook and then begin to ascend through a grove of healthy hemlocks. You continue up for a little while until you reach a dry river bed. There are many interesting geological formations, evidence of glaciation that occurred thousands of years ago. The trail that blazes through the woodlands pocked with native plants such as Pipsissewa, Rattlesnake orchids & ground pines. As you reach towards the pinnicale you come to a grove of cedar trees & here you will find more evidence of glaciation, deposited boulders & depressions from where the glacial ice left its imprint. The vista at the top of the trail is phenominal-an expansive panoramic view of the Wanaque reservoir!

Hiked this hike on Labor Day weekend. Despite the holiday, we didn't see anyone else on the hike, so it was nice and secluded. The marks for the trails seem to have recently changed (they looked repainted with a new color) so a good map is very helpful. While the view is nice at the top, most of the hike is pretty uneventful. It's all forested area until the top and on the way back we got a little bored with the same view around. Still, it is a good exercise and a nice area despite the lack of views throughout the hike.

This was a decent hike. I was confused though when I started as there are several different trails here (red, yellow, blue) and I wasn't sure which one to take as the map I received at the gate didn't match the one Brian posted. I never did get on Brian's trail but enjoyed myself anyway. Also, at least from my perspective I'd have to say the hike was more moderate than easy. I hiked mainly the red trail and it was very rocky with alot of up and down. I'd recommend this hike for at least a one time experience.
