Summary: This park is currently only open for special events or occasions. It is currently slated to open early to mid 2004 although I spoke to people at this hike who said that may get changed to early 2005. Once open this will be an excellent hiking park. The terrain varies and there is a lot of unspoiled Texas territory here to explore. This land has sat undisturbed by people since 1993 when it was purchased. It has been in development for recreational use since then. The hike I was on had varying terrain including hills, grasslands, canyons and waterways. What I enjoyed most was that I wasn't hiking on an old ranchers road like in many parks. This was a newly blazed single track trail that had some spectacular views and very unusual landscape features. The Monarch butterflies were migrating south while I was there and could be seen in abundance. Watch for the opening of this park. If you can get out for a special event I recommend it.
Trailhead: The trailhead began right behind the Park Headquarters. (Lat:29.55276 Lon:-98.74429)

This hike is a perfect 1.5 - 2 hour hike. Since it is easy to navigate it makes for a casual stroll; no bouldering. The path for the most part are wide enough for two hikers to stride abreast...only a few short stretches of queing up. Moreover, the path offers plenty of room to step off the path slightly for a break.

(Not a rating review) Although I haven't been on this hike yet, I went last weekend (Jan 06) and this area is in what's called the back country (as opposed to front country and protected habitat areas. Dogs are only allowed in the front country (2 separate trails), and not on any backcountry trails. The protected habitat area is advertised as open from 1 March - 1 Sep, but was not open yet.

Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous. You are responsible for informing yourself about these hazards and taking necessary precautions. A current guidebook and proper equipment are essential for safe enjoyment of the hikes posted on this site.
