Summary: Continue directions to the summit. From the cabin in Hidden Forest Cabin hike as you are standing looking at the cabin go to your left and follow the trail to Wiregrass Spring UTM coordinates Easting 660246 Northing 4055432. When you get to the spring cross over the creek area and hike up to the ridge.(West direction). When you get to the ridge follow that in a North direction as it is easier to walk on top of the ridge. Their are scattered cairns, & orange pieces of tapes tied to tree branches to help get you their. Hayford Summit coordinates are Easting 660891 Northing 4058220. It is a strenuous hike but worth the trip if you like hiking to Summits. Excellant views and much cooler then Vegas temps. I think these are great for overnight trips, as their is much more time for photo's and to enjoy the views and wildlife. Trailhead: To get to the trail head from Las Vegas take 95 North towards Mt Charleston. It is approximately 15 miles past the Santa Fe Hotel. You will be turning right onto a gravel road. The sign says Corn Creek Road (Brown Sign). Drive about 4 miles until you come to a Field Station. Sign in and this has some brochures, flush toliets & running water. Continue up the road & make a left which is Alamo Road. Drive 14.5 miles(sign says 16 miles) and watch for a sign that reads Hidden Forest Road. High Clearence Vehicle will make it. If it has been raining a 4 wheel drive would be recommended. Turn righ and drive about 3.8 miles and the road will end at the trailhead. Hike to the cabin as in the Hidden Forest Hike. From the cabin you will continue to the summit. Bring plenty of water or you can use spring water if you treat it.
