Summary: This hike is short. From your car head to the visitor station. From here you can see the falls. There is a short set of stairs leading up to a bridge that crosses the top of the falls. Trailhead: Take the Nevada Exit off of I-25 on the South side of Colorado Springs. Follow Nevada south a few blocks to Cheyenne Blvd. Turn West on Cheyenne Blvd. Continue on this road until you reach a fork in the road with a sign for Helen Hunt falls to the right and Seven Falls to the left. This will take you into Cheyenne Canyon. Follow this curvy road until you get to the vistors station at a large switchback in the road. Park here. Be sure to go past falls and all the way up to make it worthwhile. Good place for Beginners. The downhill drive from the area is awesome! Good for racing against jambroni's who thinks their the shiznack. Cheyenne Ken is right. If you cross over the stream at the restrooms and go up the other side it is very nice also. Beware of the City Park Nazi's that will tell you this is not a trail-but they will tell you ice climbers use it (what?). I have been hiking it for six years and was accused of bushwacking through a well worn trailhead. Whatever. Beautiful view... Helen Hunt is a nice destination at the end of the Columbine Trail. If you drive up to the falls, it's pretty, but not exactly spectacular. Touristy. Helen Hunt Falls is a more laid back atttraction. Compared to Seven Falls which charges a fee. The hike is beautiful! Be sure to get there via Gold Camp Road. Find your niche. I'm not sure if most people know to continue on past the bridge that goes over Helen Hunt. There is about a half mile hike to the top of a waterfall that is about a 200ft drop. It isn't as active as Helen Hunt but in the winter ice climbers climb this frozen fall. It is a great view from up there. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous. You are responsible for informing yourself about these hazards and taking necessary precautions.
