Summary: Got our first snow storm of the season. Received 10+ inches. Temps today were in the upper teens and windy. Today I snowshoed within the Delaware Water Gap NRA. The area that I snowshoed was in the Blue Mt Lakes area were there is an excelent trail system for Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing. I took the longer and more scenic route to the trails. I started at the Buttermilk Falls Trail. A must see in the snow. I climbed about halfway up the ridge were I then got onto Woods Rd. I took the Woods rd out to Hemlock Pond were you get access to the Blue Mt Lakes trail system. The trails in here are excelent for skiing or snowshoeing. Along the trails are thick Hemlock forests, Rock outcrops, Lakes and Swamps. When snow blankets the area it gives the area a scene you never want to forget. It is just amazing to snowshoe through snow covered Hemlock forest. It has a feel you can not describe. You just have to experience it yourself.
Trailhead: From Branchville take rt. 206 north. Go past Stokes SF office. Then make a left onto 560. You will see a sign for Walpack inn at turn. Follow 560 through town of Layton. In town you will come to blinking light. Stay to the left here. this is rt. 640. Follow 640 to Peters Valleys. Hang a slight left onto 615 toward Walpack. Come to town of Walpack. Make left and go through town. Warning Walpack is an abandon town. Take past church and over Bridge. Come to Cemetery. Make right, this is Mt rd. Follow until you can not go anymore when snow on ground. If no snow then take to the falls. Parking on right. When there is snow just park were plowed road stops or if you have 4 wheel drive just continue to the Buttermilk falls lot. (Lat:41.13706 Lon:-74.88898)
