Summary: The Horseshoe Trail is located on the West side of Oak Grove Park at Grapevine Lake. The first portion of the hike (approx. 1.5 miles) consists of an old paved park road now open only to foot and bike traffic. Several dirt loop path options are available along the paved path that offer short side trips down to the waters edge. As the old park road nears the second parking area, the trail transforms into a newer concrete surface for the remainder of the hike. Trail is in excellent condition and is easily navigated with a wheelchair, stroller, bike or of course on foot. The trail follows the lake shore for almost the entire hike and offers fabulous views of forest, meadow and lake. Wildlife viewing is optimal at first and last light but be aware that the park is open from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm 7 days per week, 365 days per year.
Trailhead: From Texas ST114 West, Take NW Hwy exit (ST382) and head Right (East) for approx. 2 miles. At Dove Rd, turn left bearing North. Drive 1.5 miles and turn left (West) directly across from the Oak Grove Park sign (if you get to the baseball fields you have gone too far). Drive through the park until you reach the first restroom facility. Park at the restrooms as the trailhead is directly across the road (32.96353N by 97.09400W). (Lat:32.96353 Lon:-97.094)
