Highlights:

Excellent trail through heavy woods to a high meadow ending at waterfalls
Near:Divide, CO
Scenery:
Distance:2.6 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:655 ft
Hike Time:1.5 hours
Difficulty:Moderate
Trail Condition:Well maintained trail
HikeType:Out and Back

Summary: From the parking area the trail begins by heading East along the road. The trail does two switchbacks and then continues east along an old road. Upon reaching Horsethief park the trail levels out and there are several nice camping spots along the trail. Continue on through the park past a sign that will tell you when you are a half mile from the falls. The falls are made by a small stream and during dry times in the fall will not always be flowing. Please be careful where you walk near the falls as to not damage the delicate environment.
Trailhead: Take Highway 24 West to Divide. At Divide turn south on highway 67 and go a little over 9 miles. The road will pass by the old tunnel entrance. Continue to the other (South) side of the tunnel to find the parking area. (Lat:38.83462 Lon:-105.13721)

This is a nice hike although the falls were still frozen solid in June! The trail is in good condition and the views are wonderful. We would recommend continuing on the trail up to Pancake Rock, also a great hike.

The hike to the falls was great. However, a half mile from the falls is a fork. The right hand fork takes you straight up the mountain to Pancake Rock. Talk about a payoff!!! The views from there are spectacular!

Nice "starter" hike for a novice hiker who needs to acclimate to the altitude. Trail begins straight above the parking area and is easy to follow. Hike takes you through heavily treed area and ends at a falls. The falls is a nice area to take pictures, but note that there are no clearings to look out toward neighboring mountains. I enjoyed this hike and would recommend it to those who are NOT looking for a "serious" hike with big payoff of picturesque mountain views.
