Summary: This crushed limestone trail has a variety of sites along it's length. Of particular interest is the acid mine drainage remediation ponds just north of Indian Head. These ponds filter and settle the polutants from one of the mines found all through this valley. The trail seems to end at Indian Head but if you cross the street and go up the gravel road, there is another mile of trail to the south. The rail throughway extends a further 11 miles south to the Youghiogheny River and there are hopes to extend the trai to join with the Yough River Traill. Hikers and adventursoume mountain bikers could continue riding through much of this but it gets overgrown and a number of bridges are out. Trailhead: From the Donegal exit of the PA Turnpike (I-76), turn left on US-31 to the Jones Mill and turn right onto 381/711. Turning left at the first intersection in Champion will take you to the northern terminus of the trail. There is no official parking here but the parking lot of the closed ski shop is available. (N40 4.477 W79 21.346) Traveling further south on 381/711 will have a sign indicating trail parking on the right.(N40 3.079 W79 23.451) Trail access is across the street and then the Melcroft Trestle spur to the main trail. Neither of these locations have any trail amenities. Still further south, 6 miles from Jones Mill, is the left turn across the bridge to Indian Head. There is a park and while I didn't see any portajohns or water fountains there is Resh's General Store. There are a number of portajohns along the length of the trail.
