Summary: This hike is a workout, there are a number of trails and options in this area, a map can be purchased from the park office. The beginning is an easy riverside walk but once you get on the Ishi Trail it basically runs up the side of the gorge. I will not get into to much detail as there is a lot of great things about this route. After you reach trail 6 cross to trail 20 via trail 22 (connector 1/10th of a mile long) Heading east on the Pinnacle Pass trail you will come to an awesome overlook. This is a great lunch spot. When you are ready to go it's all downhill from there, really downhill. This trail offers a lot of solitude due to it's elevation gain and loss. There is a lot to see here.... enjoy..see you on the trail!! Trailhead: From Greenville head north on Hwy 276 through Marietta and past the turn for Hwy 11, take a right on River Falls Road and stay staight until you come to the park, It is a fairly long distance, about 5 miles. I had planned on using the Ishi but its gone now. About 6 hours and definitely NOT a beginner trail. Very strenuous but that's what I love. Wear excellent hiking shoes, carry lots of water / food. Not for children but teens should make it fine. The Ishi trail has been permanently closed, but there are many other nice hikes in Jones Gap park. This trail is a beast! We went on a Saturday after it had rained all week off and on, and were supposed to be hiking the Jones Gap trail, but it was closed due to a mudslide. We hit up Ishi, and gave up about 3/4 of the way in (we didn't know how long it was... as we never looked on the map) mainly because of mud and steep/slick conditions. We checked it out later, and went back about a month later, did the whole thing and took the loop back down. It's a lot of almost straight up climbs in some spots. It's also fairly easy to get lost, so just stay aware and look for the markers. Enjoyable none-the-less... but we probably won't be doing it again for a while. On the upside, it's VERY remote and almost nobody hikes it and views ar Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
