Summary: This hike is notable not only for its shopping opportunities, but also for the variety of scenic wonders it passes in 2 short miles. You'll see a sheltered beach where seals and beach-goers are learning to live together, pass protected underwater reserves, and wander along the tops of sheer bluffs that tower over La Jolla Cove. And then there's the shopping.... As a special treat, stop in for a visit to Sunny Jim Cave, whose opening bears the resemblance of a 1920's cartoon character "Sunny Jim". Trailhead: 6 miles North of I-8/I-5 intersection from San Diego, take Rt 52 W (Ardath Rd). Follow for 1.5 miles, then turn right Prospect Street. Follow Prospect St 1 mile to Cuvier Street. You know, what I love to do is: go on a vigorous hike and then open up my wallet and buy stuff. That's why La Jolla is so diverse. Hiking and Buying: my two favorite pastimes. Get bent! Its beautiful and the seals are amazing! It's on the side of the coast blvd. Good view! its not really so much a hike, as it is a scenery trail. Not vigorous, smells like fish, but very beautiful as you are at the cove. Definitely not for someone seeking solitude! Usually very crowded, especially on the weekends. Parking is tough to come by, but the adorable seals are well worth the hassle. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
