Lake Park in the Lost Creek Wilderness

>

Highlights:

Beautiful stream, high meadow, large rock formations
Near:Sedalia, CO
Scenery:
Distance:14 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:3000 ft
Hike Time:7.5 hours
Difficulty:Moderate
Trail Condition:Well maintained trail
HikeType:Out and Back

Summary: Descend a short ways from the well marked trailhead down to the stream below. After crossing the stream take a left turn and follow the trail as it weaves back and forth across the stream up Hankins Gulch. When you reach Hankins Pass there will be a sign at an intersection directing you to turn right to reach Lake Park. The trail will ascend up to a saddle then descend a short ways into Lake Park. The views from here are very nice, and there are a few camping spots around.
Trailhead: The trailhead you will need to find is called Goose Creek Trailhead. From the town of Deckers (North of Woodland Park) head West on Highway 126 for a little under 3 miles. Turn South onto a dirt road which heads towards Cheesman Reservoir. From this point follow the signs to Goose Creek Trailhead.

Some fairly difficult trails, but great area. The camping sites are really nice with running streams in the area for a good water source.

At Deckers you actually go west on 126. The dirt road is about three miles. (Highway 67 heads north out of Deckers toward Trumball.) The trailhead is a good fifteen miles up the dirt road and there are no signs for Goose Creek trail until after the Cheesman Reservoir entrance. We ended up hiking Wigwam trail whic was around five miles from the Cheesman entrance. It was a very scenic hike that crisscrosses a creek in the Lost Creek Wilderness area.
