Summary: Lake Allatoona was built by the Army Corps of Engineers shortly after the end of World War II and it surrounds the park on three sides. This hike on the Homestead Loop is the most varied and interesting in the park. There are excellent views of Lake Allatoona and the damn from ridges along the trail and this route also drops you down to the shoreline of the lake. The park has numerous deer and you are likely to see them as you walk the Homestead Loop.

HIKING: (Homestead Loop Trail) – This hike follows the Homestead Loop Trail through the state park and along the shore of Lake Allatoona. It is an easy hike that follows yellow blazes across some scenic vistas that have views of the lake.

CAMPING: (Red Top Mountain State Park) – In 2004, the park had 92 tent, Trailer, and RV Sites ($18-$22), a Yurt ($35)18 Cottages ($89-$119), and a 33-Room Lodge ($69-$89) and Conference Center. Details are available at http://gastateparks.org/info/redtop/

Trailhead: PARKING: (Red Top Mountain State Park): From Atlanta, take I-75 North to Exit #285 near Cartersville. Exit and head east for 1.5 miles to the State Park. (Lat:84.43 Lon:-34.09)
