Summary: There are lots of trails through this area which are old logging roads and railroad grades. There are campsites at both lakes. It is the most beautiful in spring when lots of wildflowers, esp. Trillium are blooming.
Trailhead: From I-5 take the Alger exit (#240) and go west for about a half mile. Turn left on Barrel Springs Rd. for another .7 miles and turn right on Blanchard Hill Rd. Pass the horse trailer parking area and ignore the Lilly and Lizard Lake Trailhead sign. There is another parking area further up. After parking, you walk back down the road to the start of the trail which is well marked. (Lat:48.61628 Lon:-122.3857)

LOVE IT! nice hike up either side, blanchard mtn is RAD! if you go this far (the lakes) keep going to the top, then turn right at the ridge and summit a rock cliff called the oyster dome! FABULOUS VIEWS OF THE SAN JUANS, and even the shelfish farm on a clear day! stay and rock climb the wall, or explore the infamous BAT CAVES! both require ropes (climbing and caving). DON'T GET LOST IN THE CAVES! go with a buddy and trail a florecent twine behind you to find your way out if confused. great lakes hike though. recommend to anyone!

This is a nice 1/2 day adventure. If you overnight, Lizard Lake is the best campsite, and you almost always have it to yourself.
