Summary: This was my first taste of Harriman State park. The loop I did was in the Northern section of the park. The trail starts out with a short but steep climb up to Long Mountain and the Torrey memorial. Torrey was the individual who come up with the idea of the Long Path. The Long Path starts at the George Washington bridge and goes through Harriman park and the Catskills and ends just outside of the Catskills. When complete it will take you to Whiteface Mt in the Dacks. After soaking in the views you will climb Howell Mt, Brooks Mt and Surebridge Mt, all with limited views. Here are the trails to take. Long path to rt. 6. Follow rt. 6 past lake Te Ata. Make right onto Bailytown Rd. Take to were pavement ends. Make left onto unmarked Tr. Make left onto Long Path and back to parking.
Trailhead: From Sloatsburg take 17 North to rt. 6. Make right onto rt. 6. Go over Long Mountain. and past 293. About 1.5 miles past 293 you will come to parking area. (Lat:41.32 Lon:-74.04927)
