Summary: The Wood Marsh Trail begins at a trail head and parking area just off of High Point Road. The trail winds through the through an oak and beech forest down to the Great Marsh. The total length of round trip hike on the trail is about three miles through a succession of forest types ending at the Great Marsh. Along the way several small low bridges provide access across wet areas along the trail. The forest is especially peaceful as squirrels hunt for acorns among the dried up leaves in the fall. Great Egrets, Great Blue Herons and other wildlife can be viewed from the open areas near the end of the trail. Eagles as well as other birds are also frequent visitors to the marsh.
A parking area for about eight vehicles is maintained by the Refuge Manager. There is a large sign describing the features and wildlife of the refuge at the trail head. There is a small wooden box located near the sign contains copies of the Wood Marsh Trail Guide.
